Administrator: pothole repairs, Oak Knoll and other street projects on schedule; fire hiring underway

City Administrator Miss Duxton told council the city’s public-works crew is preparing for a large round of pothole repairs after recent snow and ice, and that crews have been delayed while many potholes remain filled with ice.
“We have to wait until it’s warmer,” Duxton said, adding that public works is seeking the correct blacktop filler and that pothole work will be ongoing and consistent. She thanked public-works staff for staying onsite during the heavy snow to keep streets cleared, a point councilmembers raised earlier in committee reports.
Duxton said she has a meeting scheduled this week with engineering firm JMA to discuss scheduling for planned work on Oak Knoll, Baywood and Grand Coracon, with Oak Knoll expected to be first on the list. She said the city is still recruiting for a public-works director and encouraged referrals via the city website.
On the fire department, Duxton said leaders have been interviewing and hiring to fill vacancies so the department can operate with full staffing; committee reports earlier in the meeting included a recap that interim Fire Chief Lackey presented on a proposed 2025 fire levy and equipment updates. Duxton said run totals increased in 2024 but did not provide a specific total at the meeting.
Duxton also said the finance department is completing its year-end close and that normal payments will resume once closeout is finished; she said the Hinkle report is expected around Feb. 1.
