Commission approves annual seasonal closure for Pole Creek Road to protect county roads

The Broadwater County Commission approved a resolution establishing an annual temporary limitation on motorized traffic on a section of Pole Creek Road to reduce winter damage to county roads.
Public Works Director TJ Gravely said landowners requested the closure to prevent motorists—particularly hunting parties—from driving off-designated roads and damaging private pastureland and county road surfaces. Gravely said he consulted all four landowners in the area and the U.S. Forest Service while drafting the resolution, and the county deputy attorney reviewed the language.
The resolution, citing Montana Code Annotated section 7-14-2127, closes Pole Creek Road one-half mile above the intersection of Pole Creek Road and Quarter Circle Road from Dec. 31 through May 15 annually, or until the closure is lifted by the county commissioners. Commissioners approved the motion by voice vote with no public opposition.
During discussion commissioners asked whether other county roads were subject to seasonal closure; Gravely said no other county roads are currently closed on a seasonal basis but noted forest-service gates control some access. Commissioners also discussed how motorists could still access the basin on foot where gates are in place.
The commission noted typographical errors in the draft resolution and asked staff to correct them prior to final signing and recordation.
