Commission declares old search-and-rescue snowmobiles and trailers surplus, authorizes auction

The Broadwater County Commission adopted a resolution declaring tangible personal property used by the county search-and-rescue group to be surplus and authorized disposal by public auction at the county’s regular meeting on Jan. 8, 2025.
The county identified the items in an attached Exhibit A as: a 2000 Yamaha snowmobile; three 1998 Yamaha snowmobiles; a 1995 Yamaha snowmobile; a noncommercial 8x8 trailer; and a noncommercial 8x12 trailer. The resolution states that items valued at less than $25,100 may be consigned at public auction and that items valued above that threshold must be sold at public auction as required by Montana Code Annotated. The resolution also notes that if no bidder offer is made, the county may sell the property by private sale under MCA provisions.
County staff said the equipment is outdated and some items—one snowmobile in particular—no longer run. The commission recorded a motion to approve the resolution and authorized sale through Pate Auctions; commissioners approved the motion by voice vote with no public comment.
Commission staff will publish notice of the sale as required under Montana Code Annotated section cited in the resolution and will prepare Exhibit A for the auction listing.
