Emmaus council approves phased compost site plan, including work tied to soccer field

Emmaus Borough Council voted Jan. 20 to approve a phased compost site plan that will support park and field work, including the construction or expansion of a nearby soccer field.
The plan was presented by the public works committee as an item for official action after prior budget discussions. Council member Ladenburg moved to approve the compost site plan; the motion was seconded and passed (recorded as ayes). Council discussed using material from work at Lions Playground to build up the soccer field area and leaving an existing field as open space. Committee members said the plan will be phased and that Engineering/parks staff (Lawrence) identified staged uses of material and earthwork.
Council members said the plan had been vetted through both the public works and parks and recreation committees and that committee minutes and attachments documenting the proposal are available for review. The public works committee asked council members to review additional attachments related to projected costs and other details ahead of future meetings.
