Rensselaer County Legislature presents resolutions honoring longtime public servants and youth athletes

The Rensselaer County Legislature on Jan. 14, 2025 presented a series of ceremonial resolutions honoring longtime public servants and local youth achievers.
The session opened with a resolution in memory of the Honorable Conrad H. Lang Jr., noting his service as a lawyer, judge and Rensselaer County legislator. Chairwoman Cher Roman Hoffman read the text of the resolution that recorded Lang’s education, military service and long record of county roles and directed the clerk to transmit an engrossed copy to his family.
The legislature also honored Linda McMahon upon her retirement after a 40‑year career with the county probation department. Legislator Grant Maloney introduced the resolution and described the probation director job as “probably the most difficult position throughout all of Rensselaer County.” In brief remarks McMahon said she was “truly honored and humbled by this recognition” and reflected on starting as an intern and devoting her career to working with children, families and people returning to the community.
A resolution commending Chief Master Sergeant Greg Mihalco followed; the measure recognized Mihalco as the New York Air National Guard recipient of the Lance P. Sejean Leadership Award for 2024 and noted deployments and volunteer fundraising the legislature referenced in the resolution. Mihalco told the chamber the honor was “beyond humbling.”
The legislature also honored two young athletes. Kaylee Paul, a 13‑year‑old equestrian from Rensselaer County, received a resolution recognizing her receipt of the 2024 National Horse Show Child and Adult Sportsmanship Award and her recovery from a 2022 brain tumor. In speaking, Paul said, “I just wanna say thank you to everybody for this. It really means a lot to me.”
An additional resolution recognized 11‑year‑old Alexandria Johnston for reaching the finals of Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition during the World Series. Johnston thanked supporters after the presentation.
Each resolution included language directing the clerk to transmit a copy of the engrossed resolution to the honoree or the honoree’s family. The presentation portion of the meeting concluded before the body moved to regular business and legislative votes.
