Summary
The Schenectady County committees advanced a resolution to buy property at 151 Erie Boulevard for $420,000 as part of the Aquatic Center project and a separate Ways and Means action would raise the project allocation from $42 million to $52 million after a $10 million state grant.

County attorneys and Finance staff told two county committees that the Aquatic Center project is advancing and that purchasing a small parcel on Erie Boulevard is the next property acquisition needed for construction.
County Attorney Gardner described a resolution to buy the property at 151 Erie Boulevard from 151 Area Boulevard, LLC for $420,000 under the county’s standard contract; a committee member asked whether the building would be demolished and was told yes. The committee moved the resolution and voted to report it to the full agenda.
Separately, at the Committee on Ways and Means, Patrick Ryan, vice president for finance at SUNY Schenectady, explained an amendment to the county’s capital budget for the Aquatic Center. Ryan said the project’s previously approved $42,000,000 allocation would be increased to $52,000,000 because the state awarded a $10,000,000 “New York State swims” grant; the increase would allow access to additional DASNY funding through the State University of New York and be included in the state budget submission the legislature will consider in the spring.
Both committees reported their respective items to the agenda for full-legislature consideration. The property purchase resolution was presented in the Economic Development and Planning committee and moved to report; the Ways and Means committee moved the capital amendment to the agenda after the presentation by SUNY Schenectady finance staff.
Details in the committees’ remarks: the county attorney said Ray Gill and staff helped negotiate the Erie Boulevard purchase; in Ways and Means, Ryan explained that the state budget proposal would be submitted after the governor’s executive budget release and that the county’s request would be part of SUNY/DASNY funding requests.
No final legislative adoption was recorded during the committee meetings; both items were forwarded from committee for consideration on the agenda, per the recorded committee votes.
