Carnegie senior living opens MPDU application period for 28 independent-living units

City staff on Jan. 21 announced that applications opened for moderately priced dwelling units (MPDUs) at the Carnegie at Washingtonian Center senior living community.
Tom Lonergan Seeger, assistant city manager, said "a total of 28 independent living units are available through this offering with the base rent for a 1 bedroom MPDU at $1,860, 2 bedrooms at $2,136." He outlined eligibility rules: at least one household member must be age 62 or older; applicants must live or work within Gaithersburg city limits (retired city employees may qualify); Montgomery County residents or employees are eligible only if there are not enough qualified Gaithersburg applicants. Household income must be between 50% and 80% of the most recently published area median income, and applicants must be able to pay a nonrefundable community fee not to exceed two months' rent.
Applications are accepted through Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. and can be submitted online via the city's housing services portal or in person at city hall. Lonergan Seeger said assisted-living and memory-care units will be available later; staff is working with the management team on pricing and will provide an update when ready.
Staff emphasized that only independent-living MPDUs are available at this time and encouraged interested applicants to contact housing staff for assistance.
