Veteran urges Conway to allow small primates as pets; request made during public input

During the Jan. 21 public‑input period, resident Michael Flowers of 1502 Oak County Avenue asked the Conway City Council to amend the city’s ordinance to allow primates under 20 pounds as household pets.
Flowers, who identified himself as a veteran, said he and his wife previously sold a business to care for an ailing parent and now want to move back to Conway with their two capuchin monkeys. He asked the council to repeal the existing ordinance that prohibits primates and to consider an amendment similar to one he said Florence is pursuing.
The request was received as public input; council did not take action during the meeting and no staff response or motion to change the ordinance was recorded. Public input at this meeting was designated by the mayor as non‑interactive; staff may follow up with the speaker after the meeting.
