Warren County's Occupancy Tax Committee on Jan. 21 approved several contract extensions and funding allocations related to tourism and occupancy-tax spending and withdrew one proposed resolution after committee review.
The committee approved two separate agreements with the Adirondack Civic Center Coalition: an allocation of $100,000 (from a previously approved five-year, $500,000 capital contract) to cover capital-improvement payments, and a separate annual special-event funding contract. The capital allocation stems from an existing five-year contract; the committee voted to allocate the $100,000 payment for 2024 and continue executing the approved contract terms.
On the special-event funding, the committee debated a proposed five-year extension for $250,000 per year and ultimately approved a three-year term instead. Supervisor Thomas moved to limit the extension to three years to preserve future boards' oversight; Supervisor Molino seconded, and the motion carried by voice vote.
The committee also authorized a one-year intermunicipal agreement with the Village of Lake George to continue $25,000 in funding for the Lake George Visitor Center and added a renewable clause allowing two additional one-year renewals by mutual agreement. Supervisor Runyon made the motion to add the renewable option and Supervisor Etu seconded; the committee approved the change and the resolution by voice vote.
A proposed resolution to extend the county's agreement with Loud Media LLC for a weekly radio feature (cost not to exceed $24,000) was discussed and then withdrawn after committee members noted an existing 2024 resolution contains option terms that cover the intended period.
Votes and motions listed below reflect committee discussion, motions and voice votes recorded in the meeting. Final execution of contracts is contingent on standard contract-signing procedures and any further board approvals required at the full Board of Supervisors meeting.
Ending: Committee members asked county staff to review contract-term practices and to present a consolidated view of contract durations at the next meeting to ensure consistent, transparent renewal practices.
