The Bay County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution on Jan. 21, 2025 congratulating Dr. Matthew Schmidt, superintendent of Bangor Township Schools, for being named the 2025 Michigan Superintendent of the Year by the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators.
The resolution cites Dr. Schmidt’s background as a veteran, teacher, principal and superintendent and credits his leadership for improvements in student-centered education in his district. Dr. Schmidt addressed the board and emphasized the work of district staff and community partners.
"This obviously is not about me. It really is a collective effort," Dr. Schmidt said during brief remarks to the board, adding that the recognition reflects the work of staff, families and the broader community.
The board voted to adopt the resolution by voice vote and commissioners offered congratulations to Dr. Schmidt and district staff.
