Councilor Paulson asked whether adopting an ordinance would affect homeowners’ private insurance policies; staff and counsel said adoption would not negate existing homeowner insurance and, conversely, failure to adopt an ordinance by March 25, 2025, could affect the city’s NFIP status. Staff explained the city now has updated flood‑plain mapping for a limited area within city limits and that an ordinance is required to align local code with the new maps and the NFIP.
Councilors voted to set the public hearing for Feb. 4, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. and directed staff to prepare materials and public notices for the hearing.
