Furnace repair, expiring lease and security contract extension discussed

Staff said a new furnace has been installed at the Village of Russell branch and is being integrated with the building’s existing wiring; work remains to modify electrical connections so the new unit can operate fully. Staff reported interior temperatures have improved in recent days after the new furnace began operation but cautioned that some power modifications are still under way.
The director reported the lease on the board’s meeting building has expired and that corporation counsel is awaiting clarification from the city about use-language in a prospective new lease. For now, staff said the library is operating under the terms of the expired lease and corporation counsel has not expressed concern; the director said she would notify trustees if the city were to request the library vacate the premises.
On security, staff told trustees the current security contract has been extended through March with the existing provider while the county’s procurement and the sheriff’s office continue to review alternatives and a possible longer-term vendor arrangement. Staff said they expect a procurement decision to be in place by the next board meeting and that current arrangements should avoid any gap in coverage.
No board action was required; trustees were briefed and asked to await the next meeting for any formal proposals or contract awards.
