Vernon County introduces new county conservationist David Hettenbach

Vernon County on the record introduced David Hettenbach as the county's new conservationist at a regularly scheduled Land and Water Conservation meeting. Hettenbach said he moved into the role after about nine and a half years certifying organic farms and processors and that he has lived in the county for roughly the same period.

Hettenbach told the committee, “I came to this position by way of... I've been working certifying organic farms and processors... and I applied for this position because I'm really looking forward to doing things for the county, and helping serve, Vernon County.” Committee members and extension staff welcomed him and emphasized that his role will serve all farmers. A committee member noted on the record that, despite Hettenbach's organic background, “he's here to serve every farmer's needs.”

During the introduction, Hettenbach said he intends to broaden his work beyond organic practices to address a variety of conservation needs across the county. No policy decisions or votes accompanied the introduction; the item was informational and intended to familiarize the committee and local extension staff with the new conservationist.

Committee members acknowledged the transition period and thanked interim staff for their work during recruitment. Hettenbach briefly answered questions about his connections with local extension personnel and other partners and offered to meet individually with members and stakeholders.
