The Galt City Council on Tuesday approved a construction contract to replace an unsafe waterslide at the Gore Aquatic Center and authorized related Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility upgrades under the same contract.
Councilmember Rodriguez moved to approve the award and noted the staff report shows ADA work is included under the contract, calling the arrangement a “two-for-one” benefit. Vice Mayor Sandhu seconded the motion; the council approved the contract on a 4-0 roll call.
City staff said the existing slide had been closed for safety and that the selected design will yield a replacement structure and associated accessibility improvements. Staff estimated construction would start in March, occupy much of the spring and summer, and be complete before the 2026 aquatic season; the slide will not be ready before the end of this year’s season but the pool will remain open as construction areas are marked off.
Public Works staff and Parks & Recreation representatives thanked contractors and noted the work is the culmination of an earlier design selection process that moved from conceptual drawings to a buildable scope. The contract includes both slide replacement and ADA-compliance work identified in the staff report.
The council did not award a construction contract for other pool components at the meeting; staff indicated they will track project milestones and return to council if additional funding or contract approvals are required.
