Council suspends rules and adopts ordinance to cover oil ditch cleaning within city limits

Council reconsidered Ordinance 2025-009 (oil ditch cleaning) and then voted to suspend the rules and adopt the ordinance during the Jan. 21 meeting.
City Engineer Jeremy Kalb reported that the county needs the city portion covered in the final mailing for the project's public hearing and that the city’s share was estimated at approximately $176,000 while $170,000 was in the city account. Councilmembers said the project has been delayed for years and supported moving it forward; the mayor said she expects a future groundbreaking. The ordinance was adopted after suspension of rules and roll-call vote.
Council agreed the appropriation will allow the county to proceed with the final hearing and subsequent construction, and staff said the improvements address longstanding maintenance needs for the identified ditch segments inside city limits. The ordinance was adopted on the record; the administration will coordinate with the county on next steps and the schedule.
