Tucker, the district’s owner’s representative, gave the board a status update on capital projects funded by the 2020 bond, saying staff will use the next five to six months to finalize decisions on how to commit remaining bond dollars from the 2020 Q2 issuance.
Why it matters: Bond-funded projects affect school facilities, special-education program delivery and long-term budget commitments. The owner’s representative said staff are prioritizing projects to respond to market conditions and construction pricing while preserving the district’s master-plan vision for special education.
Tucker said the district reviewed change orders, including finishing costs for the early-childhood work in an annex east of Jay Shidler. That particular work was postponed earlier but is planned for completion this fall; Tucker said pricing is still under review. The owner’s representative also described funding earmarked for an outdoor classroom and related bus and traffic-control work at Little School North; that outdoor space would be designed to serve students in outdoor-education activities and students who are medically fragile or on the autism spectrum.
Staff said they are evaluating escalation and pricing trends across projects at Jay Shidler, Indian Hills and Central. Tucker told the board that the facility committee will reconvene to review schedules, costs and evaluations — including the multipurpose building timing and budget — and that additional decisions will be needed in the coming months as remaining bond dollars are committed.
Weather impacts: Tucker and staff noted that recent winter weather caused schedule uncertainty, and contractors are coordinating with the district to assess damage and productivity impacts; staff said it is too early to determine the full effect of the storm on timelines.
Ending: The district said projects are proceeding but that the facility committee will meet in the coming weeks to set schedules and finalize cost decisions before the district commits the remainder of the 2020 Q2 bond funds.
