Committee leans toward three‑year Genetec licensing despite budget timing concerns

Technology staff recommended that the district purchase multi‑year Genetec licenses for its security cameras and access‑control platform, and committee members signaled support on Jan. 21 for at least a three‑year option even though the three‑year payment would likely exceed the current year’s technology budget.

Mr. Cuzzo explained that Genetec requires a license per camera and that the vendor prorates additions so that expiration dates align. "My personal recommendation would be to do at least a 3 year. 1 year, we'll be back here again next year with probably higher costs," Cuzzo said. He added that a longer term purchase spreads cost and can yield savings.

Committee members asked if a three‑year payment would be charged at renewal; staff said it would be paid at the time of renewal and that paying for three years now would avoid annual renewals for that period. Staff also noted the renewal was not already accounted for in the current budget; a three‑year purchase would be above this year’s funds and should be planned into the district’s three‑to‑five‑year projection.
