Shane Foley, director of the Natural Resources Management Department, introduced Clayton Marcotte as Beltrami County’s new forester during the work session. Foley said Marcotte comes to the county from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and an associate degree in fire science, and has worked five years with the U.S. Forest Service and about two-and-a-half years with the DNR. Foley added that Marcotte spent nine seasons as a smoke chaser at the DNR and demonstrated mechanical aptitude useful for maintaining county equipment.
Marcotte told commissioners he has experience in recreation, engineering, timber marking and silviculture regen surveys and said the department staff had been welcoming and helpful during his onboarding. Commissioners welcomed Marcotte and thanked department staff who trained him.
