Riverside County Sheriff’s Captain Northrop presented crime statistics for Calimesa on Jan. 21, reporting 21 Part I crimes in December — including two assaults, three burglaries, four vehicle thefts and 12 larcenies — and a year-to-date total of 266 Part I crimes.
Northrop described a Dec. 19 incident in the Summerwinds neighborhood involving burglaries from vehicles. Deputies located two subjects; one fled on foot after officers arrived and was not located despite a perimeter search that included a drone. The other subject was arrested for possession of stolen property and drugs; investigators identified three victims and said the thefts were from unlocked vehicles. Northrop reminded residents to lock vehicles, particularly at night.
He also reported 501 calls for service in December, 15 total traffic citations, nine parking citations, seven noninjury collisions, and one injury collision; there were no DUI arrests, fatal collisions or hit-and-runs reported for the month.
Northrop announced the Jan. 8 on‑duty motorcycle crash that killed Riverside County motor deputy Timothy Corlew. He said services for Deputy Corlew will be Thursday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. at Harvest Church in Riverside and introduced Lieutenant Mark Wallace, who joined the department from San Jacinto in December.
Ending: The report was informational; no council action followed the briefing.
