Council approves plat creating Fort Casper Academy edition No. 2 for school district driver-training facility

The Casper City Council approved on first reading an ordinance vacating and creating the Fort Casper Academy edition No. 2 subdivision to accommodate the school district's relocation of its driver-training facility to a site near Wyoming Boulevard and Alcova Casper Road.

City staff said the school district is the petitioner and that the site will house the district's driving facility after relocation from its current location at the events center. Councilor Amroth said the parcel had sat unused and called the driver-training facility a good use of the land.

Amroth asked whether repurposing the space near the event center would create parking to offset loss from construction of the sports ranch. The city manager said he could not provide a specific spot count but that "we will actually have more spaces available to our patrons than what was lost in the construction of the sports ranch." No public testimony was recorded for or against the ordinance. The council approved first reading by motion of the vice mayor, seconded by Councilor Sweeney, with all councilors voting aye.

The ordinance also approves the associated subdivision agreement and will return for further required readings.
