ALS Association schedules 'Ride to Defeat ALS' in Wimberley on March 22; organizers expect about 100 riders

Tricia Ward, development manager for the ALS Association’s San Antonio office, told the Wimberley City Council on Jan. 16 that the association plans its first "Ride to Defeat ALS" in Wimberley on March 22, 2025, beginning at Willow Lake watering hole.
Ward said the national organization asked her to pilot a ride in the Texas Hill Country and that organizers expect roughly 100 riders. "We are expecting approximately a 100 riders," she said, adding the event already had about 63 registered participants and teams coming from Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio.
Ward described how local funds raised by the association are used: equipment loans for patients who outgrow insurance coverage for mobility aids, advocacy at the legislature, support groups and funding for multidisciplinary clinics where patients see multiple specialists in a single visit. "The funds used are local for local families," she said.
City staff and council members expressed support; no formal action or funding was requested and council members said the city will provide general support and publicity. Ward said the ride will start early, finish by noon, and include an afternoon fundraising event at the venue.
