Michelle Montalbano, a planner with Hillsborough County Development Services, said the applicant requests a variance to permit building signs on a multifamily residential project because the Land Development Code limits building signs in residential zoning districts.
Cole Posey, representing A&S Signs on behalf of applicant Mindy Merriman, said the requested sign is modest in size and placed on the eastern elevation. Posey showed photos of the building’s “A” and “L” stucco letters on the north and south elevations and said the owner could paint or alter those features if staff deemed them impermissible signage.
Staff told the hearing there was no confirmation that the existing north and south markings were permitted; staff’s recommendation was limited to design compliance with other sign standards if the variance is approved. No members of the public spoke for or against the request. The hearing officer closed the record for the variance; a written decision will follow within 15 business days.
