Grant County court approves claims, designates sheriff as property custodian and appoints road worker

Grant County magistrates and Judge Chuck Bills met Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, and approved the special meeting minutes from Jan. 7, accepted claims for the general, road and jail funds, adopted an executive order designating the county sheriff as custodian of seized and forfeited property, and appointed an intermittent road laborer to a full-time position.
The court approved the Jan. 7 special meeting minutes by voice vote, then approved payment of claims dated Jan. 21, 2025, for the general fund, road fund and jail fund; each motion was carried by voice vote with all members saying “aye.”
The court adopted Executive Order 2025-01, filed under a county citation to KRS 67.0592 as referenced in the meeting record, to designate Sheriff Dennis Weitzer as the property custodian of seized and forfeited property effective Jan. 1, 2025. The judge noted that after the designation the sheriff typically assigns an employee within the sheriff’s office to oversee evidence and seized items.
The court also approved an appointment moving Rexford “Rex” Simpson from intermittent road laborer to full-time road laborer; that motion likewise carried by voice vote. No individual vote tallies were recorded in the minutes; motions were approved by unanimous voice vote.
The session concluded with routine reports and scheduling: the next court meeting is set for Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the courtroom; the court then adjourned.
