Hamilton Center reports 1,000 Greene County clients served; commissioners hear program details

Amy Glover, program manager for the Hamilton Center, told Greene County commissioners the center served 1,000 county residents last year — 733 adults and 267 youth — and provided 4,504 clinical encounters.

Glover said the center’s intake appointments average 28 minutes and that more than half of its appointments (553) were paid by Medicaid. Referrals to the center came from self-referral, law enforcement, hospitals, primary care providers and schools, she said. Glover outlined two new intensive outpatient “Matrix” programs for addiction and said the center used evidence-based treatments including Matrix, MRT, relapse-prevention, cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.

The commissioners heard that 263 adults and 4 youth received addiction treatment during the year and that the center’s shared-care total was $78,436. Glover said mental-health services are provided in clinics, community locations, clients’ homes, the housing authority and the jail; the most common adult diagnoses cited were generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and major depressive disorder.

Commissioners thanked Glover for the report and asked how the county could assist; Glover said she would consult with Cindy (county contact for the center) about specific needs. No formal action was taken on the report during the meeting.

The presentation listed the center’s community engagements over the year, including the fall health fair, Freedom Festival parade, Greene County Night Out, Bluefield Apple Festival and other outreach events.

The center’s summary to the commission provided service counts, payer mix and program descriptions but did not request county funding or specific board action at this meeting.
