WorkNet DuPage plans quarterly sector roundtables, starts professional clothing program and schedules Jan. 24 worker-rights workshop

Lisa Shavak of WorkNet DuPage updated the DuPage County Economic Development Committee on planned sector partnership meetings, a new professional clothing resource and an upcoming workshop.
"We are planning on hosting, a series of quarterly sector partnership meetings," Lisa Shavak said, describing a program that will convene employers, training institutions and community-based organizations once a quarter to discuss industry challenges and workforce solutions. She said the initiative is being developed in alignment with local and regional WIOA strategic plans and that Choose DuPage will partner on the effort. Shavak said the first session is tentatively scheduled for March 20.
Chair Yoo and other committee members had previously noted WorkNet DuPage’s day-to-day role connecting jobseekers with resources. Chair Yoo earlier highlighted a holiday partnership in which "Julie Health contacted work net during the holidays to partner with them on a professional clothing drive," and said WorkNet repurposed donated items and a clothing rack so clients can select suit coats, sweaters and blouses. Shavak described the effort as ongoing, with staff contributing donations and a plan to make the drive annual.
WorkNet also plans a Jan. 24 workshop titled "Know Your Rights in the Workplace," scheduled for 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a speaker from the Illinois Department of Labor. Shavak asked committee members to promote the event and noted WorkNet staff and partners will continue outreach to employers about sector partnerships, training pipelines and opportunities to present back to the committee after sessions.
Shavak said WorkNet is responsible for implementing the county’s federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) dollars and that staff will provide follow-up to the committee as planning for the sector sessions advances. "We will be working with Choose DuPage on this initiative as well," she said.
The committee received the report and moved on to other new-business items.
