Two residents addressed the Mentor City Council during the Jan. 21 "persons before council" period.
Adam Stahlhut of 7418 Hawk Avenue asked the council to approve use of Japanese "K" trucks (mini trucks) on city roads. Stahlhut said K trucks are already authorized for use in 19 U.S. states, including Ohio, and that Ohio authorizes them on roads with posted speeds up to 35 mph provided a local jurisdiction permits them and the vehicle has passed inspection. "K trucks are small, compact, affordable, versatile," Stahlhut said, adding they are useful for deliveries and light work tasks; he told the council he had an inspection completed for his vehicle and asked the city to adopt the local approval required by state law.
John Osberg of 7417 Carroll Drive thanked the city for clearing Mentor Avenue but complained about the timing of sidewalk plowing in his area. He said he observed obstructions on sidewalks that forced pedestrians into the street and asked that sidewalk clearing be completed more promptly to avoid safety hazards for pedestrians.
Both remarks were part of the public-comment period; the council did not take immediate action on either request during the meeting.
