North Ridgeville officials announced Jan. 21 that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration awarded $26,250,000 through the Ohio Rail Development Commission to fund the Rice Road grade-separation project.
Mayor (not specified) told council, “The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration awarded funding to 123 rail projects across the nation, and North Ridgeville is one of them.” He said the award “gives us the funding to complete the design, the property acquisition, the construction of that overpass.”
City officials said the project will eliminate the at-grade crossing over a 3-mile stretch of Norfolk Southern track by separating crossings at Rice Road and Maddock Road. The mayor said construction of the overpass is scheduled to begin in 2030, and that design work and property acquisition will take place before construction starts.
The announcement came during the administrator’s report at the Jan. 21 council meeting. Officials did not provide a detailed construction schedule, engineering firm names, or a property-acquisition timeline during the meeting; those details were described as work to be completed in the design phase.
Council members did not take a vote on the project at the Jan. 21 meeting. Additional project details and milestones will appear in future agendas and staff reports as the city advances design and acquisition activities.
