Commission advances DuPont Road substation concept plan to detailed site plan stage

The Berkeley County Planning Commission voted to advance the concept plan for the DuPont Road Substation (file 2411-352), a proposal by FirstEnergy Corporation for a new electrical substation on roughly 1.4 acres.
County staff told commissioners that the site, located on DuPont Road in the Falling Waters district, would not be served by water and sewer utilities and that no waivers had been requested. County Engineer Doug Smith reviewed the plan and deemed it compliant with the subdivision ordinance on Dec. 2, 2024; staff recommended advancement to the detailed site plan stage.
Josh Krebs, representing the project’s engineer, answered procedural questions and said he was "happy to answer any questions." Commissioners had no substantive technical questions and Tim Lewis moved to accept the staff recommendation; Aaron Goff seconded. The motion carried.
Advancement to a detailed site plan requires later submission of construction-level plans and applicable permits; no construction approvals were issued at this meeting.
