RSU 6 committee reports cover budgeting basics, facilities upgrades and energy services bids

Several RSU 6 committees reported work intended to inform upcoming budget and facilities decisions. The Budget Advisory Committee met Jan. 9 and held a budgeting 101 overview that covered how school budgets differ from household or business budgets, reviewed 10-year historical financial data and discussed enrollment and staffing trends; the committee scheduled its next meeting for Jan. 23.
The Finance & Facilities Committee (Jan. 9) reviewed accounts payable and payroll warrants, the top 25 expenditures and an interim financial report for December 2024. Committee members discussed monies held for vocational schools, potential reallocation for the district robotics program and a $10,000 discretionary line that may support travel if a team reaches nationals. Facilities updates included a districtwide switch to a new computerized maintenance management system named Operations Hero and a preventive maintenance schedule. The committee also discussed flashing school-zone lights at selected schools; Director Gleason said he will research costs and processes for installation.
The committee overseeing energy matters issued an RFQ for an energy-services company to review district energy consumption and procurement; bids and interviews are expected by the end of January, and Director Heath expressed interest in participating in interviews.
The Policy Committee held a joint meeting with the Rules Committee to closely examine district policies and rules, and the Negotiations Committee met Jan. 15 with administrators, went into executive session and scheduled follow-up negotiation meetings.
Ending: Committees announced upcoming dates for continued budget, finance, policy and negotiations work and requested staff follow-up on energy bids, flashing school-zone lights and maintenance scheduling.
