Summary
District officials held a required Act 34 hearing and said the intermediate school additions and alterations project is out for competitive bid, with a tentative bid opening Feb. 6, 2025 and construction possibly beginning March 31, 2025.
South Fayette Township SD held an Act 34 hearing and put the intermediate school additions and alterations project out for competitive bidding, Superintendent Dr. Miller told the school board during the Jan. 27, 2025, meeting.
The Act 34 hearing — a public meeting the district said is required for school building projects involving substantial additions or alterations — reviewed maximum construction costs, school capacity and aggregate building expenditures, Dr. Miller said. "The Act 34 information was reviewed during tonight's meeting and is available in our district office," she said.
District staff held a pre-bid meeting for construction companies interested in bidding and said bids are expected to be opened on Feb. 6, 2025, although that could be pushed back by about a week. Bids will be reviewed and staff are "tentatively expecting to award bids during the week of Feb. 21, 2025," Dr. Miller said.
If the schedule holds, the district expects site preparations to begin in March and potentially start construction on March 31, 2025. Dr. Miller said the project is expected to last approximately 16 to 18 months.
Board materials also noted a recommendation for a change-order process for district construction projects — including the intermediate school additions and alterations, elementary school work and the bus depot — will appear for action at a future meeting.
No contract awards were made at the meeting; the board will consider bid openings and change-order authority at upcoming sessions.
