Home and School representatives thank Spring-Ford board for reinstating four free Saturday events; groups say donations exceed $227,000 this year

"On behalf of our Home and School Association, we thank the board for reinstating the 4 free Saturday events," Vera Grill, identified herself as the 7th-grade representative for a 5–8 Home and School Association, said. Grill told the board parent organizations will donate about $227,000 back to schools this school year through fundraising and that over the past five years the organizations have contributed nearly $300,000 toward capital improvements.
Another speaker, Lauren Jay of Upper Providence Township, also thanked the board and urged that the reinstatement be approved at the upcoming regular meeting. Board members and student representatives acknowledged the volunteers’ contributions during board comment.
Why it matters: The free Saturday events reduce costs for parent-run activities and were described by volunteer leaders as a meaningful source of savings for PTO and Home and School groups. Board members thanked the volunteers and said they look forward to a formal vote on policy at the regular meeting.
No formal action on Policy 707 was recorded at the work session; board members said the reinstatement will be on the February agenda for formal consideration.
