Paul Revere pilot school awarded $175,000 Playful Learning grant for early grades

The School Committee on Jan. 24 heard that Principal Coyle applied for and received a $175,000 Playful Learning Institute grant to pilot playful-learning instructional strategies at a full-inclusion school serving pre-K through grade 3.
A district presenter said the grant application had been approved by the school’s staff and governing board before submission. The Playful Learning Institute’s stated objectives were quoted in the meeting: participants “gain tools and strategies to intentionally design and embed playful learning instructional strategies across course of the school day,” the presenter said, and clarified that the approach “doesn't mean they're gonna be out on the playground all day” but rather gives teachers training to “create playful moments as they're teaching math or reading.”
The presenter noted one grant requirement was that the receiving school be a full-inclusion school, which the Paul Revere school meets, and called the grant an exploratory pilot that may inform adoption in other schools.
Ending: Committee members thanked Principal Coyle and his team and noted the district will monitor the pilot for possible broader use.
