Volunteers, board members coordinate distribution of about 1,000 turkeys; schools and partners helped place donations

Board members and community volunteers reported distributing approximately 1,000 donated turkeys for Thanksgiving, with organizers saying about 30 birds remained after distribution through school and church partners.

A board member who reported on the effort described coordinating with Val and Bell and with local churches and school social workers to handle storage and distribution. The board member said the district’s walk-in freezer was used so the turkeys would not be left in trucks and that an architect was not involved in this topic. "You can't let them just sit in a truck, they have to be refrigerated," the speaker said while describing logistics.

The report credited Val and Miss Hoepner for helping organize the distributions and credited Officer Heath and local elementary schools for serving as distribution sites; one local partner — identified in the meeting as Jaden's (a local donor/partner) — also provided support. The speaker said two distribution events were held and that social workers and school principals helped match donations to families in need. The Rotary was mentioned as providing 63 jackets earlier in the school year.

Board members emphasized the ongoing community need and encouraged coordination with established programs such as Angel Tree and Toys for Tots for seasonal toy donations.
