Board hears details of AI fellowship grant to train district educators

The fellowship requires participation by a district administrator; a board member said they attended the first session with a district administrator named Troy. District staff said the program includes multiple training sessions during the year and a culminating activity in which participants present action-research findings at a technology conference; the transcript named South by Southwest as the conference and noted that attendance will be paid for by the grant.
Board members framed the fellowship as a response to the growing role of artificial intelligence across sectors. In the meeting a board member commented that “artificial intelligence keeps to be more and more prominent,” noting applications in health care, writing and in school districts and saying it was “a good thing” to have trained staff who can inform the district’s work.
The board did not take formal action on the fellowship during the excerpted portion of the meeting; staff indicated follow-up and planning will continue under the grant’s terms.
