Norwin board approves routine consent agendas, finance, personnel, facilities and athletics items

The Norwin Board of Education approved a series of routine consent‑agenda items by voice vote during its meeting, including prior meeting minutes, education items, policy second‑readings (except the contested D3), finance, personnel, facilities and athletics items.

The board approved minutes from the Dec. 2 and Dec. 5 meetings by voice vote. Education items 1 through 11 were approved by voice vote; Board Member Alex Detshell recorded a dissent on item C3 (principles for governance and leadership). The board approved policies 1 through 9 on second reading by voice vote, with the exception of D3 (Policy 142, Migrant Students), which was discussed separately and decided by roll call (see separate article).

Finance items 1 through 5 were approved by voice vote. Personnel items 1 through 4 — which were listed as having been discussed in executive session — were approved by voice vote. Facilities and support services items 1 and 2, and athletics and activities items 1 through 4, were likewise approved by voice vote.

During the public‑comment period, Denny Rittenhouse of Valley View Drive urged the board to consider preserving the existing stadium façade to reduce renovation costs; he suggested the architect examine alternatives that avoid full‑demo and rebuild. A separate speaker, Alex Detshell, spoke from the public‐comment podium as a private citizen and urged restraint in district spending; he referenced a proposed $30,000,000 stadium tax proposal that he said had been discussed previously.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that passed by voice vote.
