The Richmond City Council approved an updated Michigan Mutual Aid Box Alarm System agreement (MABAS) to maintain predesignated mutual-aid procedures for large-scale or out-of-area fire and emergency incidents.
City staff explained that the proposed update clarifies how local fire resources are predesignated and dispatched under the regional MABAS system; Chief Trend was present to answer questions. Councilmembers said the update does not change current operations but documents how the department interacts with the MABAS card system.
A motion authorizing the mayor to sign the updated MABAS agreement was made and passed by voice vote. Staff noted the city previously approved earlier versions of the agreement and that this action is an administrative update to align procedures for regional mutual aid.
