El Paso ISD board records auditor conference; denies grievance appeal

The El Paso Independent School District board voted to record that it held a conference with the chief internal auditor in executive session and later upheld the superintendent's designee by denying a grievance appeal from Sergeant John Solis, Police Services.

A board member moved, “I move that the board meeting minutes reflect that a conference with the Chief Internal Auditor was held on this day during executive session.” The motion was seconded and passed unanimously, 6-0.

The action on the grievance appeal came after the board returned from a closed session held under sections 551.071 and 551.074 of the Texas Government Code. Trustee Hernandez moved, “I move that the board uphold the superintendent's designee decision and deny this grievance appeal.” Trustee Kahl seconded the motion. The board approved the motion with five affirmative votes and one abstention; Trustee Hunani did not participate in the grievance hearing and was recorded as abstaining.

Two other items on the agenda were noted with no action taken: a claim by Active Internet Technologies LLC DBA final site and litigation described as "social media adolescent addiction, personal injury products liability litigation." The board adjourned at 3:44 p.m.

Why it matters: Recording that a conference with the chief internal auditor occurred documents that the subject was discussed in a legally authorized executive session. Upholding the superintendent's designee on a personnel grievance resolves the formal appeal without further public action at this meeting.
