Weber County awards contract to Alta Excavation for 22100 South widening ahead of new high school

The Weber County Commission voted to award a construction contract to Alta Excavation for improvements on 22100 South, a road that serves a new high school on the west side of the county.
Ashley Thalmann, a county staff member presenting the project, said the contract will widen 22100 South from 43100 West to the west side of the new high school and add a center turn lane to improve safety for student drop-off. "This project would be to widen 22100 South from 43100 West to the west side of the new high school," Thalmann said, and added the contractor was the low bidder from more than 10 bids received.
Thalmann described the project's funding sources as a mix of impact fees and road-maintenance funds: "The funds for this project come from Lower Valley Roads impact fees, Lower Valley storm drain impact fees, and then also some road maintenance money to mill and overlay the existing asphalt." He said the contract schedule specifies completion by Aug. 1 so the work will be ready for the new school year.
Commissioners praised the safety focus and approved the contract by voice vote. The motion to award the contract carried with commissioners voting in favor.
County staff said work will include storm-drain construction in lower-flow conditions followed by curb, gutter and asphalt work when temperatures are appropriate. The contract award follows a competitive bidding process in which Alta Excavation submitted the lowest responsive bid.
