Lift-station parts delay and easement fixes slow Leitchfield bypass work; commission approves staff to correct easements

Separately, staff reported four or five easements on the bypass route contain defects that the engineer and DOT have not cured. A staff member said he has exchanged multiple emails with Brandon Hamilton but that the problems remain unresolved. He asked for permission to have city staff or counsel correct the easements and deduct the time and cost from the engineer’s fee.
A motion was made and seconded to allow the city attorney to secure and correct the easements and to have staff (Dave) perform the work and deduct the cost from the engineer’s compensation. Commissioners voted to approve the action.
The commission also discussed contract timing and liquidated damages for the bypass contract, saying the city will work with the contractor on delays tied to material and equipment availability rather than immediately assessing liquidated damages.
There was no formal schedule change beyond the parts delivery estimate and the direction to proceed with curing easements and addressing contract-day issues cooperatively with the contractor.
