Library staff told trustees on Jan. 18 that 2024 programming expanded across age groups and that several operational changes launched last year have eased staff workload.
Jennifer Carey, library director, presented completed programming goals and noted successful new offerings including TinkerTime (a hands‑on maker program), expanded teen services and a monthly classics movie series that drew steady attendance. Staff said coding, robotics and themed programs (for example, food‑related STEM events) often attracted the largest crowds; one session drew about 40 attendees.
Staff also reported outreach growth: organized off‑site presentations at local schools, senior sites and community events produced more than 2,400 face‑to‑face interactions in 2024. Laura Manuelson, a part‑time librarian, was singled out for popular school‑age programs held on school off days and during summer.
On operations, staff described a move to LocalHop for online program registration and meeting‑room bookings. Library staff credited LocalHop with making registration easier for patrons and reducing the manual work of scheduling meeting rooms. "Patrons can now go in and reserve their own rooms. They could pay online," staff said; trustees asked staff to reassess time savings after a full year of use.
Other completed items highlighted in reports included creation of a welcoming children’s play area (funded by the foundation), new tech toys and manipulatives for the creative space, and training videos for digitization equipment.
Ending: Staff asked the board to continue supporting outreach and marketing efforts to build on 2024 momentum and to allow time for operational changes (like LocalHop) to show their full impact in 2025.
