Contractor to start Coffeyville-area bridge replacement Jan. 13; detour informal, 125 workdays estimated

Brandon Burskins, identified on the meeting agenda as the public-works presenter, said the county posted public notices to local newspapers, radio and the county Facebook page and notified the post office and school-bus barn. He said the contractor’s timeline calls for about 125 working days, but completion is weather-dependent.
“It's weather dependent,” Burskins said during the meeting, adding that crews do not charge the contractor for days lost to bad weather or weekends. He and others noted that asphalt work requires sufficiently warm temperatures to be durable, so colder conditions could delay the final paving.
County staff said there was no official detour published at the meeting; they described a likely local gravel-route bypass (roads referred to in the discussion as 5350 to the south and rejoining at 5550) and suggested some traffic may detour north to the county line and use Highway 166. Commissioners asked about planned traffic counts and related projects; staff said traffic counts taken in September showed peak daily figures on some local roads in excess of 160 vehicles on some days.
Staff also updated commissioners on other local road concerns: ongoing work on the Buckeye project (awaiting suitable temperatures for final asphalt), traffic counts on County Road 2250 east of Sunflower, and the status of a water crossing/bridge project further north (no firm timeline provided). The Pumpkin Creek bridge (bridge number 913 or 913A depending on the span) was discussed in relation to road maintenance and truck traffic volumes.
Ending: Public-works staff said they will notify the public through media and the county Facebook page, coordinate with schools and the post office about bus routing, and bring detailed detour and grant-application information back to commissioners at a subsequent work session.
