Houston County Commission approves jail contracts, staffing, road report and bond financing authorization

The Houston County Commission on Jan. 13 approved a set of routine and policy items including a roadway renaming, contracts and budget amendments for public safety, and authorization to seek bond financing for county projects.

The commission adopted a resolution naming a portion of North Broad Street "Sammy Bagwell Memorial Boulevard," authorized the chairman to sign a contract for inmate food service at the Dothan City Jail, approved two dispatch positions for the sheriff's office with an accompanying budget amendment, and authorized a jail needs assessment contract with a supplemental budget amendment. The board also accepted the county's FY2024 Rebuild Alabama annual report, authorized the secretary of state to act as agent for voter file maintenance under Act 95-769, and approved engaging Frasier Lanier to seek bond funding for recreational improvements and economic development across Houston County.

The actions were taken by voice vote, with the chairman calling for "aye" or "nay" on each item; the clerk recorded the motions as approved during the meeting.
