Representatives of the Madison Area Arts Alliance told the Jefferson County Board of Tourism about recent projects and community programming supported in part by the board's funding.
Kim Nyberg, speaking for the alliance, described organizational growth: the alliance now has a full-time executive director, a part-time program manager and a part-time office and gallery manager, and it expanded physical space at 324 and 326 Mulberry. Nyberg said the alliance raised $107,000 for the River's Edge sculpture, a public-private partnership developed with the City Public Arts Commission and supported through state programs including the Indiana Destination Development Corporation and Patronicity.
Nyberg outlined public-art work the alliance will refresh once weather allows, including artsy boxes on the hilltop and in Hanover, new murals for the Dollar General Marketplace, two new sculptures, and a hanging system for Arts Alley. "We raised a $107,000 for that project," Nyberg said of River's Edge, and she asked the board to note the alliance's ongoing need for sponsors for upcoming fabrications (about 14 sponsors sought for the artsy boxes).
Nyberg also described programming aimed at all ages: Artsy Camp for K-6, youth and college creative programs, and community events such as Art After Dark and gallery nights. She said the alliance is not requesting funds at this meeting but wanted the board to know how previous support has been used and to foster continued collaboration with BMI and other partners.
