Committee members reported that a resource the Family Life Advisory Committee had approved was accepted by the Frederick County Board of Education and will move forward as a high-school resource. Committee members said the board’s work session last week approved the video resource (named in the meeting as "Love Labradith"), and staff will begin developing supporting materials for high schools.
On old business, staff reported they contacted four charter schools about compliance with FCPS health education requirements. The committee received enrollment numbers and compliance confirmations: Harold Creek ("a little over" 300 students), Frederick Classical (about 380 students), Minoxie Valley Charter School (about 420 students) and Sybilisville (about 200 students). Staff said all four schools reported that they follow the essential curriculum and that most teachers participate in FCPS training, though schedules and delivery were modified to fit each school’s size.
The committee discussed adding a single representative to speak for all charter schools on the committee roster. Members agreed to make that change and asked Karen Yoho and Elijah Steel to bring the recommendation to the board for next-year recruitment. The committee did not take a formal vote on the guideline changes at the meeting; the item will appear on the next agenda for approval.
Separately, committee members announced local human-trafficking resources and training: Hartley House and a forensic nurse from Frederick Health have presented to staff this year, and the Human Trafficking Response Team will host an annual summit on Friday, Jan. 31, with continuing-education credits for social workers and a survivor speaker.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that was seconded and carried by voice; no roll-call vote or tally was recorded in the transcript.
