Committee members described pressure on existing fields driven by multiple team levels (7th/8th, freshman, JV, varsity) and both boys’ and girls’ programs; the district has been using some off‑campus sites for practices and games, which creates transport and class‑time implications.
Committee members said Clark Field — a field that has been under construction for several years — is expected to return to use for practice but will not be regulation‑ready for games when it comes back online. They described a need to increase the number of game‑ready fields on campus to reduce off‑campus travel and scheduling conflicts.
The committee also discussed facility rentals and said class A and B rentals for community groups and school‑connected organizations are set to open Feb. 1. It is preparing an updated rental‑fee analysis comparing Great Valley to other districts in the county.
On construction items, staff summarized change orders (Phillips Brothers electrical contractor, change orders 12–15) that included emergency‑lighting adjustments required by township code, rewiring doors, motorized shades, card‑access and exit‑sign location changes, remote sound‑system adjustments in the gym and library, and programming of panic buttons. Committee members said a quote for Charlestown and Great Valley Middle School sound‑system replacement remains a placeholder until an updated estimate within the last 30 days is obtained.
Committee members listed five‑year plan candidates that include tennis‑court repairs, high‑school and middle‑school campus paving, playground and library updates, and other capital projects for future prioritization. The next Facilities Committee meeting was set for Feb. 20.
