Facilities director Mr. Dixon told the board the tentative work plan had been advertised and that a full public hearing could not be held earlier because of statutory advertisement timing. The board recessed for the required hearing, received no public comment, and voted to adopt the final five-year work plan unanimously.
Board members then discussed the county's impact-fee update. The county consultant will deliver a report that the board and staff will use to request the district receive parity with other categories such as transportation and law enforcement. Mr. Dixon and board members said impact fees are a significant local capital revenue source for school construction and improvements; board members emphasized the importance of appearing together before the county commission and legislative delegation to press for equitable treatment and timely adoption.
Board members also noted Hurricane-related projects that appeared in the work plan, including repairs at the Marine Science Station and other sites, and asked staff to return a more detailed end-of-year report at a March meeting that will include enrollment projections and capital implications.
