The Santa Cruz Planning Commission on Jan. 16 nominated and elected its 2025 officers. Commissioner Paul Jemas was elected chair and Commissioner Dan was elected vice chair by voice votes during the meeting.
Commissioners opened nominations for chair and, after a motion to close nominations, held a voice vote. The commission also followed the same process for vice chair. Commissioners noted a longstanding informal tradition that the vice chair often succeeds to the chair role, but said the tradition is not mandatory.
There was praise for continuing service and appreciation for outgoing leadership during the nominations process. The commission closed nominations, held voice votes, and recorded the results as approved by voice vote.
