County approves $27,299 budget amendment to move FEMA hazard‑mitigation elevation project forward in Piney Point

The county approved a budget amendment on April 19 that allows a federally funded hazard‑mitigation home‑elevation project in Piney Point to proceed once the homeowner provides a final cash contribution.

DPW&T Director George Erickson described the project at 16678 Piney Point Road (formerly Edward Adams Residence) as part of the county's hazard‑mitigation plan to raise homes out of the 100‑year floodplain. Erickson said the project had Maryland Historical Trust clearance and that contracts were in place to elevate the structure. The original grant split was 75 percent federal and 25 percent owner share: $69,600 federal and $23,200 homeowner. Additional federal funding and homeowner contributions were identified in the packet; Erickson said the budget amendment allows the project to be awarded subject to the homeowner providing a remaining $6,825 balance.

Erickson said work will take four to five weeks once awarded and will raise the house from about two feet above the 100‑year flood plain to roughly four feet above it. The commissioners approved a $27,299 budget amendment for project US Tech 1401 Piney Point Mitigation; the transcript shows the motion passed by voice vote.
