The San Angelo Animal Shelter Advisory Committee approved its consent agenda and elected a new chairperson and vice chairperson to terms ending January 2026.
The committee approved the consent agenda items (A and B) following a motion and second; the motion carried unanimously. Penny Roberts, a public commenter, asked that monthly shelter performance reports for October, November and December be pulled from the consent agenda for fuller review; staff then presented those monthly reports during the meeting.
On officer elections, the committee nominated and elected officers for 1-year terms. After nominations and acceptances, the committee announced that Horton would serve as chair and that Herschel was elected vice chair; the committee then continued the meeting under the newly seated chair. Committee bylaws and local ordinance require annual elections at the first meeting of the calendar year.
Members also directed the director to identify volunteers or subcommittee members to assist staff in reviewing registration and restraint policies; committee members emphasized the need to remain consistent with the Texas Open Meetings Act when forming subcommittees.
Votes at a glance: Consent agenda approval — motion carried unanimously. Election of chairperson (Horton) and vice chairperson (Herschel) — nominations and votes carried.
