Missouri Senate opens 2025 session with new leadership and 10 new senators

The Missouri Senate began its first full week of the 2025 regular legislative session noting leadership changes and a wave of newly elected members.
Senator Tony Luke Demeyer, the Senate majority floor leader from Parkville, said 10 of the chamber's 34 senators are new this session and welcomed the newcomers. "I'm looking forward to serving with all of the newly elected senators. We got a bunch of great new colleagues," Demeyer said.
Senator Doug Beck, the returning Senate minority floor leader from Afton, also noted the privilege of serving in the Capitol and said he was glad to be part of the session. The leaders' remarks framed a session that several senators said will pursue different priorities.
The comments came during a brief recorded roundup from the Capitol; lawmakers are scheduled to return to Jefferson City on Tuesday following the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
